I salute the noblest sage Patanjali
Who brought peace of mind by his work on yoga
Clarity of speech by his work on grammar
And purity of body by his work on medicine

I salute Patanjali
Whose spirit blessed us in human form
Whose arms hold the conch and disc
Who is crowned by a thousand-headed cobra
My salutations to thee.

Key to Symbolism:
Conch- the sound of the Universe that awakens us
Disc- the power of wisdom to discriminate what is real from the unreal
Thousand head cobra- referring to Ananta, the divine serpent that in biting its own tail symbolizes the circle of eternity from which all possibilities can spring.
